We are currently in very unique situation for Philadelphia sports. I say unique because it seems as though our teams will be giving us real contenders soon, that is except for the Phillies. The Fightins are on a downward spiral from the baseball pedestal they were once atop of not that long ago. From 2008 to 2011 the Phillies were one of, if not the best team in baseball. They of course won the World Series in 2008, the Pennant in 2009, and in 2011 broke both league and franchise records. Fans may look back to these years as the greatest era of Phillies baseball ever, but sadly these days are long gone.
But then the inevitable happened; players got old. Of course this is a part of the game, the nature of the beast if you will. Players get old, and then are replaced. The problem here is that the players have yet to been replaced. I love guys like J-Roll, Utley, Howard, and Marlon Byrd. They have been a big part of this franchise, but they are not helping this team win anymore. Age has caught up to the club, and it is showing. Instead of trying to get younger, Amaro is convinced this team is still capable of winning.
It seems like the Phillies go 20 to 15 years of being terrible, then for a couple of years are real contenders. So I'm betting the 2030 Phils will be the team to watch out for.

The Sixers, on the other hand, are in the complete opposite position from the Phillies. The 76ers have been a bad team for quite a few years now, and to right the ship have taken many drastic measures. This includes trading their lone all-star in two consecutive years (Holiday and Iguodala). While the Phillies are old news, the Sixers are boasting a roster of young bucks that will hopefully develop and mature together into a contending team. Despite the fact that they won't play together anytime soon, a frontcourt of Noel and Embiid has already drawn comparisons to Duncan and Robinson. Add to the mix last year's ROY Michael Carter-Williams, as well as other potentially talented pieces and the Sixers are looking at something that could become very big. The only negative is that we will have to wait for the change to happen. So while the Phillies are on their way down, we can take solace in knowing that the Sixers are only a few years away from being a good team. Hopefully.
