While the rest of the NBA world was focused on some big name free-agent signing (some James fella) the Sixers were celebrating winning an actual championship. Albeit a summer league championship, but you take what you can get. This really is a good sign to see. It proves that our young guys can play and may really make an impact on the team. Despite the fact that Nerlens Noel and K.J. McDaniels did not play in the Champioship game, the team was able to beat a Memphis squad that was fully healthy. This camp has proved to be a highlight of the development of some of the team's young guys like MCW and Hollis Thompson. It also showed that other prospects may be able to make the team's final roster come September. Guys like Ronald Roberts Jr. and JaKarr Sampson proved they deserve at least a shot at making the team. The main reason the team was so successful was on account of their defense. They held opponents to minimum scoring chances, while also protecting their own rim with blocks and steals that often led to fast break points. Which is exactly the type of game you want to see from this young, fast, team. While I realize that this is only a summer league title, it still gives us the fans something to look forward to this Fall, something we haven't had as Sixers fans in quite a few years.
P.S. Nerlens Noel, other than having the best haircut on the team, has really looked as good as advertise when he has played. He is ferocious on the defensive side of the court and a rebounding menace. He also seems to be improving offensively too. If he can maintain this throughout a whole NBA season, he could really be a force in this league.
